President's Foreword

Welcome to Study@PolyU website.

On this interactive website for prospective applicants, you can find up to date and comprehensive information on our Bachelor's Degree and Sub-degree programmes, which I sincerely hope will stimulate your interest in studying at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Over the years, PolyU has earned a remarkable reputation for offering professionally-oriented programmes. In late 2004, our achievements in professional-oriented education were publicly commended by the University Grants Committee, and we were awarded an extra $20 million in recognition of our excellent performance. Another measure of our achievement in this regard is the employment rate of our students. In 2008, the vast majority of our degree graduates were able to obtain positions offering excellent career prospects, with merely 2.2 per cent of them still seeking employment six months after graduation.

While we strive to equip students with professional knowledge, the University is also firmly committed to ensuring that our students benefit from an all-round education. What is more, our 'Preferred Graduate' Development Programme has been providing our students with hands-on work experience in companies in Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and overseas before graduation since 1997. To cultivate the global outlook of our students, we are also expanding our student exchange and non-local student recruitment programmes.

All of these exciting initiatives and new developments are a clear manifestation of our vision — to become a 'preferred university' offering 'preferred programmes' and producing 'preferred graduates'. I therefore invite you to carefully explore the wide range of study opportunities presented on this website. Whatever programme you choose, we will do our best to ensure that your time with PolyU is both productive and enjoyable. I look forward to welcoming you as one of our students.

一直以來，理大致力提供不同的專業課程。二零零四年，理大在實踐一所提供專業課程大學的角色方面表現出色，因而獲大學教育資助委員會的高度評價，並獲發額外撥款二千萬元，以資獎勵。而本校畢業生的驕人就業數字，亦足以肯定理大以應用為本的辦學理念及成就。以二零零八年為例，絕大部份學士學位畢業生在畢業後六個月內成功就業，僅百分之二點二仍在覓職。 

除了灌輸學生專業知識外，理大亦致力培育學生的全人發展。此外，自一九九七年起，理大每年推出「首選畢業生」培育計劃，為學生提供在香港、中國內地及海外機構實習的機會。為了擴闊學生的國際視野，理大也積極招收非本地學生和拓展交換生等計劃。
