Outstanding Alumni
Our biennial Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award recognises distinguished graduates who have not only excelled in their respective fields, but have also won international acclaim or played valuable roles in public service.
Their accomplishments, which have contributed immensely to the social and economic success of Hong Kong, set a challenging example for their successors to follow and demonstrate the extensive and diverse contribution that PolyU has made to the community.
Together, they form a network of committed professionals who contribute their knowledge, skills and leadership qualities to shaping Hong Kong's success, both now and in the future.
These graduates have made their mark as leaders in many fields, including health, fashion, business and industry, not only in Hong Kong but also around the globe. Today they are highly respected members of the international community. |
Mr Tommy Li Wing-chuen (李永銓先生)
A prominent graphic designer, Mr Li is Creative Director of Tommy Li Design Workshop Limited, specialising in poster, packaging, corporate identity and brand design.
Mr Li has received almost 500 awards over the years including the World's Outstanding Chinese Designer Award and the Hong Kong Artist of the Year Award. He has also received four awards from the New York Art Directors' Club. A Japanese design magazine noted that he would be one of the most influential designers in Hong Kong over the next decade.
Mr Li's distinguished achievements also made him the Distinguished Design Alumnus of the School of Design in 2004. His remarkable career successes and active contribution to the community as adviser, adjudicator and lecturer have been matched by unfailing gifts of time and service to his alma mater. |

Mrs Yvonne Law Shing Mo-han (羅盛慕嫻女士)

Currently National Chief Knowledge Officer and Partner of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Mrs Law is also the Chairman of the Taxation Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Vice President of the Association of Women Accountants Hong Kong.
With her professional accomplishments, Mrs Law was recognised as Top Tax Advisor in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland in 2001-2006 by International Tax Review, and named one of the National Hundred Outstanding Women Entrepreneurs in 2006.
She has also contributed to the development of the University's School of Accounting and Finance by serving as a member of its Advisory Committee.
Her success and achievements have been a continuous ornament to the accounting and taxation fields, and a great encouragement to accounting professionals and to the women of Hong Kong |
Mr Marco Wu Moon-hoi (鄔滿海先生)
Mr Wu is currently Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Housing Society. He is also a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors and of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Under Mr Wu's leadership as Director of Buildings, the Buildings Department implemented the revised enforcement strategy against unauthorised building works and promoted green buildings in Hong Kong. He was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2006 for his distinguished and dedicated service to the government and the community.
Mr Wu maintains close links with the University. He has given well attended lectures, assisted in the revalidation of the surveying degree courses, and was Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Department of Building and Real Estate from 1993 to 1996. He also provides strong and valued support for the development and fund-raising projects of the University as a whole. |

Dr the Honourable Leung Chun-ying (梁振英博士)

An HKSAR Executive Council Member and a renowned professional surveyor, Dr Leung graduated from the former Hong Kong Polytechnic with a Higher Diploma in Surveying in 1974. He is a shining example of a prominent individual who combines a busy professional life with dedicated service to the community.
"As a PolyU alumnus as well as an employer of its graduates, I am deeply impressed by the graduates' diligence, professionalism, initiative and problem-solving abilities," Dr Leung said.
"PolyU is accomplishing an outstanding task in continually producing high-calibre professionals to support the development of Hong Kong's fast-growing property market."
Dr Leung's professional skills, contributions to community service and outstanding leadership have won him great respect in the building profession in both Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland. He received his Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award in 1997. |
Miss Vivienne Tam (譚燕玉)
Another recipient of an Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award in 1997, Miss Tam is one of the most popular Asian fashion designers in the world. She completed her Higher Diploma in Design with Distinction in 1978 at the former Hong Kong Polytechnic, and credits the programme with launching her career.
"I remember my time at the Polytechnic as being dynamic and challenging, but always rewarding. The diverse curriculum, which included product design, graphic design and the various concepts of art and design, certainly laid a solid foundation for me to establish my career and played an important role in developing my creativity," said Ms Tam.
Although based in New York, where she runs a multi-million US dollar a year business, Ms Tam maintains close contact with students of PolyU's School of Design, sharing with them her experience and knowledge in fashion design and marketing. |

Dr Ng Tat-lun (伍達倫博士)

A prominent industrialist and Outstanding PolyU Alumnus, Dr Ng commends PolyU's vision in integrating technological knowledge and management skills, which prepares students for an interesting and challenging career.
Dr Ng, who is the Chairman of the Occupational Safety and Health Council, Chairman of the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency, and Chairman of the Employees Retraining Board, and Deputy Chairman of the University Council, said that PolyU graduates frequently progress in their careers because of the quality of training and knowledge that they acquire.
"I have employed many PolyU graduates over the years and they have never let me down. In addition to imparting a wealth of professional knowledge, PolyU is also an excellent learning environment that develops skills in communications and problem-solving," he said.
Dr Ng attended the former Hong Kong Technical College twice, graduating first in 1962 with a Diploma in Production Engineering and again in 1969 with a Diploma in Management Studies.
In the true Hong Kong style of combining hard work, initiative, diligence and entrepreneurial spirit, Dr Ng has promoted the engineering profession and played an important role in developing vocational training, industrial technology and occupational health and safety. |
Dr Rebecca Lee Lok-sze (李樂詩博士)
A renowned explorer who has reached the Arctic Circle, Antarctica and the summit of Mount Everest, Dr Lee received her Certificate in Commercial Design from the former Hong Kong Technical College in 1964.
She emphasized that her studies at the Hong Kong Technical College were the milestone of her personal development and helped to shape her life goals.
Dr Lee has made immense contributions to polar exploration over the last 20 years and she is also actively involved in public education initiatives to increase awareness of environmental protection. Dr Lee received her Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award in 2003.
"Have confidence and rely on yourself," Dr Lee advises today's students. "You are your own best friend." These mottos have been given abundant meaning by her own remarkable accomplishments. |
