Credit-based System

PolyU programmes operate under a credit-based system. This flexibility responds to the changing needs of our students, the professions and society. It gives you greater freedom to decide your own pace of study, and facilitates the transferability of credits.

Academic programmes are comprised of subjects that are valued in credits. About 35-45 hours of study earns a single credit.

Students who have approval from their departments can pace their own studies. You should normally complete the credit requirements for graduation within the durations that are specified under individual programme entries. The maximum period of registration is usually twice the normal duration for completing the programme.
